Your files stay where they are. Ambient reads the folder you point it at. It never moves, copies out, or uploads your files.

Nothing of yours goes anywhere on its own. Ambient sends something only when you ask it to — connect an AI and it shares the few paragraphs that answer the question, nothing more. The one exception is the licence check around renewal time, which sends your purchase code and a machine identifier, the same as when you activate by hand; your documents and knowledge never travel with it.

Changed your mind? Uninstall like any other app — your files were never moved.
A note on size: most of the download is the AI models that run on your own machine. The first time you add a file, Ambient also fetches its language model once (about 0.5 GB) and keeps it; after that, nothing is downloaded unless you ask.
